Minimalism vs Maximalism Styling

Maximalism is all about filling your space with the objects you love and being bold with colour and style. Minimalism is all about embracing a clean aesthetic and less is more approach. They are complete interior opposites, yet we love both…

There are 2 types of people in this world- the ones who love a calming and serene space, and the ones who love a fun, colourful place to lounge but, which are you? On the one hand, minimalist spaces are full of soothing neutral colours and Scandi style that we can’t get enough of. But, we are also obsessed with the bold colours, patterns and texture of maximalism. To help you decide which you prefer, we have styled 2 different rooms.

Minimalist room: The Sofa

For a minimalist look, Lola in White Rabbit is a dream. Modular, timeless and the comfiest sofa you will ever sit on. Paired with the gentle, soothing tones of White Rabbit, you have sofa heaven.

Maximalist room: The Sofa

Our Rose in Dragon Eye is the perfect sofa for any maximalist room. Squidgy, unique and stylish, Rose is one of our coolest sofas. For a bold statement, opt for our Dragon Eye fabric. With stunning jewel tones and green and blue hues, we can’t think of any fabric Rose would look better in.

Minimalist room: The Scatters

No sofa is lounge-ready without scatter cushions! To complement the White Rabbit sofa, we love our scatters in Chinchilla Paw. The beige tones are perfect for creating a serene atmosphere, and the basket weave pattern adds some gentle texture.

Maximalist room: The Scatters

No sofa is complete without scatters and for a maximalist look there is no fabric more perfect than our Paradise Bird Navy. Inspired by nature, these scatters are closer to a work of art than a cushion.

Minimalist room: The Wallpaper

Minimalist doesn’t have to mean boring and this wallpaper from Word of Wallpapers is anything but. The beige tones pair perfectly with the Chinchilla Paw scatters, whilst the cream background mirrors White Rabbit. The gorgeous tree pattern is the ideal gentle artwork that a minimalist room needs.

Maximalist room: The Wallpaper

Is a room really maximalist if it doesn’t have a mural wall? Create yours with this gorgeous wallpaper from World of Wallpapers and bring a slice of nature into your home. Adorned with flowers, birds and trees, you won’t even need a TV, you’ll be too busy looking at your wallpaper.

Minimalist room: The Vase

We love this vase from Dunelm to tie into the minimalist look. Its unique shape and smooth ceramic texture match the calming theme of the room. Pair the vase with some pampas grass and you have the perfect minimalist accessory for your lounge area.

Maximalist room: The Candle

There's no better way to cosy up in the evenings than by lighting a candle. Simple is not the goal for this room though, so why not opt for a candlestick and pillar candle? This beautiful candlestick holder from Wayfair is extravagant, and the shape and wood wash mirror Rose’s legs. Pair it with this candle from Amazon to match the green of Dragons Eye.

Minimalist room: The Lampshade

Brighten up your living room with a fun light shade. This one from Lightinthebox matches the room theme perfectly. We love how this light shade manages to make

a statement, whilst being soothing, serene tones of cream.

Maximalist room: The Lampshade

We love the extravagance of maximalist style, so for the last piece of this room, we are looking to emulate luxury. This light shade from Ombra Lighting does exactly that, with tiers of golden, glazed, glass, this light shade is the last touch of opulence that this room needs.

So, that’s how we would style a minimalist room and a maximalist one, which is your favourite? Let us know over on our Instagram page.
