Lorna Lucas on the Noah Chair in Paradise Bird - Mulberry
After leaving school in Manchester, Cheshire born Lorna Lucas studied languages in London before embarking on the next adventurous phase of her life, travelling Europe. Spending most of that time exploring the beautiful towns and countryside of Italy she eventually settled on the shores of Lake Garda. During her frequent trips to Venice, she fell head over heels in love with the city, its art and architecture. Lorna became particularly fascinated by the glass maestros of Murano and their captivating use of form and colour. Lorna’s permanent travelling companion was her camera, photographing everything that captured her imagination.
Whilst in Italy Lorna developed her drawing and painting skills, discovering what the Italians call “La Fantasia” – her creative imagination. She began taking commissions and to establish her own distinctive style.
Lorna returned to the UK and studied 3D Design in Manchester, gaining a first-class honours degree, specialising in lighting and glass. Ever hungry for creative experience, Lorna continued her education with a screen-printing course, but it was her introduction to digital print that really brought La Fantasia to life once again. Working with a design agency in Hackney she became enthralled by the vibrancy and broader colour options offered by digital print.
